From $399
Order Now!Wondering whether you are the biological grandparents of your grandson or granddaughter? A missing parent test (also known as a grandparent test) could be the right test for you. Send us DNA samples from the paternal grandfather, grandmother and grandchild, and we will determine whether the missing, untested alleged father is really the biological father of the child tested. Our missing parent DNA testing service starts from $399, this is the cost for a peace of mind test for the grandmother, grandfather and grandchild.
Science behind the test
A grandparents DNA test is very accurate as long as we have samples from both the paternal grandparents. To help increase the accuracy of the test, a sample of a known parent should be included (usually the mother’s sample is included) if possible.
In theory, we can test a single grandparent to determine whether he or she is the biological grandparent of their grandchild. If the paternal grandfather and grandson are available for the test, we can suggest a very accurate Y-Chromosome Test. This test is carried out between alleged male blood relatives to determine if they share a common paternal line.
Sample Collection
A missing parent test can be carried out by providing samples from the grandmother, grandfather and grandchild or grandchildren. Samples can be collected with our kit which contains:
- 4 mouth swabs for every test participant
- Instructions on how to collect your sample
- Consent forms
- Pre-addressed envelope to return your samples to us for testing. We recommend returning your samples to us by Recorded or Special Delivery.
Note: We can only guarantee standard result turnaround time when testing takes place solely using oral swab samples. Using a discreet sample for your test may lead to an increase in turnaround time.
FAQs
Can I carry out a Legal Missing Parent Test?
Our legal missing parent testing service can be used in cases where our clients require court admissible results. Sample collection for a legal test must maintain a chain of custody which, amongst other steps, requires that the sample collection be carried out by a neutral third party such as a health professional. Test participants must provide passport-sized photos and copies of identification documents.
Legal missing parent test results can be used in court to support evidence of a relationship between the grandparents and their grandchild. The results can even be used for immigration purposes and presented to Citizen and Immigration Canada as proof of relationship.
